Ireland

For my first post I have decided to write about the Irish cuisine. I chose Ireland because it is where I live. Ireland has a very interesting history with food because in 1740-1741 Ireland was struck with a great famine which caused the death of approx. 1 million people.

Ireland is a country with a temperate climate and a lot of traditional food from here revolves around this.

Traditional Irish Stew

The recipes and ingredients change from person to person, family to family and usually you would put whatever meat and vegetables you have leftover, there are more common ingredients used.
the most common ingridients in a stew would be lamb, potatoes, onions, carrots and celery. To make the stew you lightly fry the lamb and the onions before adding the other ingredients and adding lots of stock, you would then leave it to boil. Here is a recipe for another version of an Irish Stew: http://www.bordbia.ie/consumer/recipes/lamb/pages/irishstew.aspx .

Tea Brack

The fruit mix is then put in a cake mix and is baked. Tea brack is normally eaten with a thin layer of butter and accompanied with a good cup of tea. The recipe for Tea brack changes from family to family because it is another one of those traditional recipes that you would get from your mother or grandmother.
